Seasonal vaccination against flu using new «Sovigripp» vaccine has started in Russia

The Ministry of Health and the Federal Service on Surveillance for consumer rights protection and human well-being (Rospotrebnadzor) announced that more than 5.5 million people in 82 regions were vaccinated. Vaccination is still optional but the majority of experts consider it to be essential. There is the same situation in children vaccination against other infectious diseases. «It’s necessary to pay attention to condition of the child, contraindications and possible side effects», - «Vesti» said.

Today is the best time for vaccination and Deputy PM Olga Golodets demonstrates it with her personal example. At the medical office of the House of the Government of the Russian Federation vaccination is going on. Domestic vaccine protects from the most widely spread flu stains B and H3N2. Last year 42 million people (almost 1/3 of the whole population of the Russian Federation) were vaccinated but nevertheless the Government wasn’t satisfied with the results.

«4268 people died because of flu and acute respiratory disease complications. That’s prohibitive amount. Today we have all the opportunities to avoid flu and acute respiratory disease complications. The first step is vaccination. Vaccination is free and paid from Federal Compulsory Medical Insurance fund,» - said Deputy PM Olga Golodets.

Vaccination has started in all regions. Special focus will be on the Vladimir, Kaluga, Smolensk, Kirov, Tyumen regions and the Chukotka Autonomous Region because of high infection rates they demonstrated last year. Emergency vaccination against poliomyelitis is also taking place. There have been no case of poliomyelitis since 1997 but specialists are disturbed by two cases of poliomyelitis in Ukraine. «Immunology meetings are being held and all children, both who have attenuated medical contraindications and whose parents are against vaccination at all, need to be vaccinated», - said the Head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova.

Refuse vaccination is common today. Often parents are afraid of possible implications after vaccination. Parents must be aware about all of them and must inform a doctor about all previous and inherited diseases of the child. «First of all that’s allergies. Vaccination is possible neither during allergy aggravation nor in case of any viral or bacterial disease», - said the Chief Independent Pediatrician of the Moscow Department of Healthcare Igor Koltunov.

However, most of contraindications are temporary. Chronic diseases are not the reason to refuse vaccination, quite the opposite, because immunocompromised people are the first aim to viruses and bacteria. «Vaccination is highly recommended for persons suffering from lung, cardiovascular, kidney or endocrine chronic diseases», - said the infectiologist at Moscow municipal clinic No 220 Irina Makarova.

The efficacy of children vaccination is undeniable. With its help smallpox was defeated, spreading of mumps, measles, rubella and tuberculosis was stopped. After the start of compulsory vaccination against pneumococcal infection infant pneumonia and meningitis have become exceptional. Tests are strongly recommended before each vaccination, including seasonal flu vaccination, and the key element is to be healthy for vaccination.
